Rakesh Brahmanandan (born 26 October 1979) is an Indian playback singer and an actor, who predominantly works in Malayalam and Tamil cinema. He is the son of Malayalam playback singer K. P. Brahmanandan.
Rakesh debuted as a singer in the 2006 Malayalam film, Aanachandam, and has continued to work in several movies.
Early life[edit]
Rakesh Brahmanandan was born on 26 October 1979, the son of K.P. Brahmanandan and Usha Brahmanandan. He was initially trained in Carnatic music by his father K. P. Brahmanandan, who was a disciple of D. K. Jayaraman. Later, he trained under Ambalapuzha Vijayan and Dr. Chandrababu Vazhamuttom. He now trains under the discipleship of Guru Kalaimamani Dr. Sunder.
Career[edit]
Rakesh made his debut as a playback singer through the song "Arikil Varoo Vasanthamayi" in the movie Aanachandam directed by award-winning director Jayaraj, starring South Indian Actor Jayaram. He has sung for legendary composers such as Dakshinamoorthy Swami, Illayaraja, Raveendran, Jerry Amal Dev and composers like Bijibal, Alex Paul etc. Rakesh's solo performances and performance with his band " THE RB LIVE " have successfully crossed over 300 shows across India and over 12 countries worldwide. {{[1]
In 2019, Rakesh made his debut as a music composer for the song "Hemantha Pournami Ravil" for the movie "Pathinettam Padi' starring Mega Star Mammootty, directed by ace Writer-Director Shankar Ramakrishnan.
In 2022, Rakesh made his acting debut in Manu Anand’s directorial debut FIR. He also rendered the Malayalam version of the song “Payanam” for the movie. In the same year, he lent his voice to Actor Narein for the Malayalam version of the Magnum opus movie Vikram. Throughout his career, he has also dubbed for many commercials.[2]
At the 42nd Kerala Film Critics Association Award, Rakesh won Best Male Playback Singer.[3]
In 2018, Rakesh kicked off a show “Neelanisheedhini” as a tribute to his father. The show was conducted in Kozhikode, where the late Brahmanandan enjoyed performing a lot.[4]
He also performed at the grand Onam celebrations in 2023, conducted by the District Tourism Promotion Council Kozhikode in association with District Authorities at Beypore Stadium.[5]

Rakesh is married to Dr. Amrutha Balakrishnan, a Ayurvedic gynaecologist. They have two daughters.[6]
